3 Rules for Burning Fat Over 40 By Craig Ballantyne
One of the side effects of aging is that you lose the ability to burn fat at the drop of a hat. So if you’re over 40 and want to lose belly fat, here’s what you have to do:
Rule #1: Eat a low-calorie diet, focusing on whole, natural foods.
Everyone needs to be eating more fruits and vegetables, no matter how old they are. So try to add one extra serving every day – starting tomorrow – until you are up to 10 total servings per day. The fiber will help fill you up. And by reducing processed foods in your diet at the same time, you will have more energy and you will lose weight. It’s that easy.
Rule #2: Use resistance training to sculpt your muscles.
As you get older, strength becomes more and more important to your health and well-being. If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. So make sure your exercise program includes total-body strength training at least twice per week, preferably three times.
Rule #3: Do interval training instead of long, slow cardio.
Researchers from Australia found that women who did only 20 minutes of interval training three times per week were able to lose more belly fat than women who did 40 minutes of long, slow cardio. So switch your program to short-burst exercise and you’ll get more results in less time!

New Help for Migraine Sufferers

Here’s a fact that the pharmaceutical companies will try to keep from hitting the mainstream media. Daily supplements of vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid were found to reduce the frequency, severity and disability of migraine headaches twofold.
The study conducted by researchers at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia found that the B vitamin combination lowered levels of the amino acid, homocysteine, which can be elevated in some people and lead to migraines.1 Previous studies have found that elevated levels of homocysteine increase the risk of stroke and other coronary arterial diseases.
The Australian study tested 52 migraine sufferers with auras who were given either a placebo or a supplement combination of 2 mg folic acid, 25 mg vitamin B6 and 400 mcg of B12. After 6 months, the vitamin group had a 39% reduction in homocysteine and a reduction in the frequency of migraine disability from 60% to 30%. No changes were observed in the placebo group.
For the 28 million Americans who experience frequent migraines and rely on pain medications, this news couldn’t be better.
A study published in 2003 estimated that at least two-thirds of migraine sufferers who were prescribed triptans, the most popular migraine medication, delayed or avoided taking them and risked even more severe and longer-lasting headaches.
The reason? Concerns about medication side effects, which can include nausea, sleepiness and fatigue, racing heartbeat, and difficulty thinking clearly.2
On the other end of the spectrum are individuals that overuse their migraine medication. This causes a type of headache known as “rebound” or medication overuse headache (MOH). MOH sufferers experience pain — often on a daily basis — that is characteristic of both migraines and tension headaches.
Neurologist Dr. Peter Goadsby says, “there is now substantial evidence that all drugs used for the treatment of headache may cause MOH in patients with primary headache disorder.”3
Is it any wonder that migraine sufferers are in a lifetime catch-22 situation of chronic pain?
If you suffer from frequent migraines, start taking a good B Complex supplement. You may not only reduce the frequency and severity of your headaches, you’ll have additional protection from the silent arterial killer, homocysteine.
Even if you don’t have migraines, B vitamins should be part of your daily nutrient program. Along with protection from homocysteine, you’ll also combat depression, help keep cholesterol in the normal range, enable your cells to properly grow and divide, improve your memory, and break down foods for needed energy.
Let’s see a prescription drug do all of that!
Organics: More Than Meets the Eye

The next time you’re at the grocery, pick up a conventionally grown apple and an organically grown apple. Smell them. While the organic apple will be more fragrant, there won’t be much difference in the way they look.
But what you can’t see can hurt you.
Pesticides – in “conventionally grown” fruits and veggies – are powerful endocrine disruptors. They affect your delicate hormonal system – which, in turn, affects everything from your weight and mood to your risk of cancer and infertility. And most Americans eat over a gallon of these health-harming chemicals each year.
Pesticides (and other endocrine disruptors) are measured in nanometers (nM). Professor Michael Mackay helps put the miniscule size of these compounds into perspective by using a Post-It note.
Hold a 3 x 3 inch Post-It note out in front of you – at arm’s length. Now imagine how small that Post-It would look if it were halfway around the world from the spot where you are standing. Pretty small, huh? That is 3 nM – the size of one molecule of a pesticide.
In times of economic uncertainty, it’s smart to jettison unnecessary expenditures. But paying a little more for healthy food is not an unnecessary expense. Choose only organic produce, wild fish, and organic pastured meats to stay healthy, strong, and mentally balanced – no matter what the economy does.
