Webster Technique

destin chiropractor pregnancyThe Webster Technique is a chiropractic technique that concentrates on the bones located and connected at the bottom of the spine called the pelvis and sacrum. Contrary to popular belief, it can be administered to any weight bearing individual regardless of gender or age. It is especially beneficial to women and pregnant women because of the orientation of the uterus and it’s connectivity to the pelvis.

The uterus sits inside of the pelvic bowl and is suspended by ligaments that attach to the bones of the pelvis and sacrum. During pregnancy the body releases hormones that relax muscles and open joints in preparation for delivery. All of these changes to the body can easily cause misalignment of the spinal and pelvic bones. When the sacrum becomes rotated out of place, the tension on the ligaments that attach the uterus to the sacrum will become unbalanced. This imbalance can shift the uterus out of normal position. Malposition of the uterus can be uncomfortable for a growing baby and may cause turning or abnormal positioning of the baby inside the uterus. Webster technique addresses this sacral misalignment and in return may balance the uterus inside the pelvis, giving the baby ample room to assume the best position for a natural delivery.

Most pregnant mothers want to deliver naturally without pharmaceutical or surgical intervention. Over the last few decades, however, cesarean rates have climbed to one in three births. Scheduled inductions and c-sections prior to due dates are becoming trendy and convenient. We must remember that delivering naturally is something that women have done for thousands of years. The female body was designed for it! Chiropractic care is the way to a healthier, happier pregnancy and delivery! Techniques like Webster prepare the spine and pelvis for the task of birth and delivery. Taking care of the body both before and during your pregnancy is the best way to prepare for birth.
