What is Digital Meridian Imaging™ (DMI)?
DMI measures the electrical resistance at acupuncture points and uses mathematical algorithms rooted in Oriental Medicine to generate diagnostic charts and graphs. This approach traces back to the early 1950s, when Japanese doctors Yoshio Nakatani and Kobei Akabane, alongside German doctor Reinhold Voll, independently discovered the measurable properties of acupuncture points.
Dr. Nakatani advanced this work by developing a system for both diagnosis and treatment. He used an electrical device to assess skin conductivity, mapping out each meridian’s energy levels to identify excesses or deficiencies. Treatment then involved stimulating specific points to either boost a weak meridian (tonification) or calm an overactive one (sedation). He also addressed “split” meridians—imbalances between the body’s left and right sides—using a specialized group of points known as “Luo” points in Chinese acupuncture.

This alternative medicine practice posits that stimulating the ear’s surface can influence the whole body via its connection to the central nervous system. Unlike traditional ear acupuncture, which targets specific functional points, auriculotherapy uses the ear as a broader reflex network.
